Getting to Whitby Collegiate
Students from the Kāpiti Coast, Porirua, Johnsonville and the Hutt Valley find it easy to get to Whitby Collegiate.
Buses
Whitby Collegiate and the NZ Coach Service run bus services to provide transport for our students during the school year. We are delighted to be able to provide this efficient service, ensuring that students arrive safely to begin their school day.
NZ Coach Service is very keen to work with the school to establish the most effective bus route for students. Should you have a preferred bus stop along either route that would be more convenient to you, please notify the School Office so that we can accommodate your request if possible. Only major stops are detailed in the timetables below, but the buses will stop at any public bus stop along each route. Please ensure that students waiting to catch the bus are in uniform (unless it is a designated non-uniform school day) and are plainly visible to the driver as he approaches the stop.
On each route, the bus will collect Whitby Collegiate students and deliver them to the school only. Students will not be permitted to alight the bus before reaching Whitby Collegiate. For your peace of mind, please know that no member of the public will be permitted to travel on the bus.
In the event of buses or connecting trains being delayed at the end of the day due to weather, road accidents etc the school will attempt to contact parents, notifying them of any such delays. For this purpose, please ensure that your contact details remain current within our student database.
Near the beginning of each term bus passes may be collected by students from the school office, and charges will be disbursed to your school account for payment.
Students who only occasionally need to catch the bus may purchase a 10-trip ticket and the cost will be disbursed to your account. Please contact the school should you wish to discuss matters concerning bus charges being disbursed.
Students will be collected from school at the end of the school day and will travel home by the same routes in reverse. The buses will leave school at 3.20pm.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your son/daughter’s transport to school, please contact Angela Taylor - angela.taylor@whitbycollegiate.school.nz or phone (04) 234 1070.
Private Vehicles
It is very important that our parent community are aware of traffic safety requirements when dropping off or picking up students.
Drop off and pick-up points are:
Discovery Drive
Adventure Park car park
Public walkway access points in Solander Place and Genoa Place
Starboard Lane cannot be used as a drop off and pick up point between the hours of:
8:00am and 9:00am
2:30pm and 3:30pm
Note the dotted yellow lines on the curve of Discovery Drive near Starboard Lane.
Parents are not to park on the grass verge.
Parents are not to use Starboard Lane entrance as a turning point.
In addition, we ask that students do not:
Cross Discovery Drive on foot:
Use the pedestrian underpass beneath Discovery Drive.
Cross the bottom of Starboard Lane near the buses on foot.
Please cross outside the main school office.
All the above measures are designed to ensure the safety of our students when travelling to and from school. Thank you for supporting us to do this.
